Your first tantric massage: how to prepare and what happens

A first tantric massage can feel like a leap, mostly because the treatment is so often misdescribed. This guide walks through a session at Monique Therapy step by step, from booking to the moment you leave, so there are no surprises.

Before you book

Start with a 60 minute session. It is long enough to experience the full sequence of breathing, meditation and bodywork without the depth of a 90 or 120 minute appointment feeling like too much for a first visit.

The treatment is for adults aged 18 and over. If you are pregnant, recovering from surgery, or managing a medical condition, mention it when booking so the session can be adapted. Clients recovering from surgery are usually better suited to post-operative lymphatic drainage. Questions can be sent by WhatsApp before you commit.

How to prepare on the day

  • Arrive freshly showered, or allow a few minutes to freshen up on arrival
  • Avoid a heavy meal in the two hours beforehand
  • Do not drink alcohol. You need to be sober and able to communicate clearly
  • Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to change out of
  • Put your phone on silent before you walk in
  • Drink water through the day so you arrive hydrated

The consultation

Every session begins with a short, confidential conversation. You will be asked about your preferences, any areas to avoid, the pressure you enjoy and whether you would like optional elements such as facial massage, hand and foot work, gentle stretching or an eye covering. Boundaries are agreed here, and they do not change once the session begins.

This is also where you can say what you want from the session: to sleep, to feel more present, to let go of a stressful period. The pacing adapts accordingly.

During the session

You will be given privacy to undress to your comfort level and settle under the draping on a warm treatment bed. The session opens with a short meditation and guided breathing. Hands-on work begins with long, slow strokes along the back and builds from there, with pressure checked as it goes.

Draping is maintained throughout, the therapist remains clothed, and the areas agreed in the consultation stay as agreed. You can ask to pause, lighten the pressure or stop at any point, and you will be checked on without having to ask.

Natural responses

Deep relaxation can bring responses people do not expect: a few tears, laughter, tingling, a change in temperature, or falling asleep. All of these are normal. They are handled calmly, and none of them changes the boundaries of the treatment.

Afterwards

The session ends with a quiet close and a few minutes to rest before you get up. Most clients describe heavy, relaxed limbs, a quieter mind and better sleep that night. Drink water, keep the rest of the day gentle and leave intense training until the next day.

There is no set rhythm for rebooking. Some clients return monthly as part of a wellbeing routine; others book around particularly demanding periods.
